Nest made from a piano

I was lucky enough to have a piano donated to my project and of course made a nest from it.

Images are below. It is about .5m wide and 40cm high.

More New Sculptural Nests

I was lucky enough to acquire some beautiful materials this week: Venetian blinds and a box of used balloons. The results are new and interesting nests.

Nests in Layered Glass

I found some old glass shelves and found a way to make them into a nest. I have created a 6 layer nest.  Each layer of glass has another part of the nest on it. I made two over the last few days and I have one more to create. They are very interesting to look at as the nest appears to be 3D.

Multiplying Nests

The nests seem to be multiplying faster than I expected. I had to do some serious reorganizing of the studio space because the nests seemed to be taking over.  I am having such fun creating the large-scale nests from found objects. The lastest is layers of glass with paper under each layer to form the nest.  It is hard to see in a photo but you can see through the layers of glass and it seems like you can see right into the nest. The paper is cut very thin like a grass nest. The glass is old shelving that I found in the store space.  I have begun a second glass shelving one and am taking apart fabric one thread at a time and building a nest using layers.  It is super challenging to make this work. Tomorrow CBC is at the studio to talk to me about the nest project.

Here are some images of what the Market Mall studio looks like this week after producing a few more nests.

News Nest

Finished a new nest that is made from the straps used to hold newspapers in bundles. It was such fun to build. I don't have a photo with the eggs. I created three eggs out of newsprint for inside the nest. It measures 50 x 30 x 40 cm.

I hope to build a larger one so am collecting straps from people that deliver the paper.

Nest - Nest Egg - Empty Nest -- exhibition starts this weekend

I have a bit of a surprise exhibition going up this weekend. The Meewasin Valley Centre (402 3rd Ave S) in Saskatoon had a cancellation in their gallery space and called to see if I could put up some work. I agreed to exhibit some of my nest pieces.

I am excited because so many of the series will be up at some point this spring and I am going to include two of my found object sculptures.

There will not be an opening reception for this exhibition.
