New Nests and other stuff

Rose in October. Yay

Shoes with feathers on a pair of shoes. These were in an exhibition of famous pairs of shoes created by Roger Vivie. The exhibition was amazing. I am always amazed at how nature influences, art and design.

Lunch by the Eiffel Tower.

Pop Machine Nest

I made a great nest today. I just love it. It is made from the tubes for a fountain pop machine. I am so excited about the colours.

creating nests

I am creating like crazy, a large nest made from clothes hangers that the Disney costumes hang on, a nest from old snow fencing, computer wires and plastic straps.

Nest with Clothes Hangers and Wire Form

A fantastic object came into my hands, it is a round, kind of nest like and strong. So.... I am securing hangers to it using mostly tension. The hangers are from the Disney character costumes that are drycleaned. I am on the hunt for more of these as apparently there are many.  I have more hangers that can be imagined and will add to this structure tomorrow when I am in my studio. This nest is a goal for completion tomorrow. Day 3 in the studio at Disneyland Paris.

A Pot of Honey and Groceries

Two images. None about nests, although the nests went very well today and I met a lot of great new people. It is so fantastic to work in a space with such greenery and to be surrounded by natural things while I create. They moved some palm trees into my space today so that they would survive the winter.

The first is a little pot of honey made by the bees I worked with this summer. I helped for a while to put the honey in the pots, not a simple task, a sticky on though. The honey will be given to guests at the hotels.  So fun to watch and entire process or cycle of the creation of honey.

This is my grocery basket. Yes the necessary things in life. No matter that I am in beautiful Paris, I have to buy food. The life lesson here is that, it is just living no matter where you are, so love what you do and love the people around you.  The rest is just filler.  As Shakespeare said "There is nothing either good or bad, thinking makes it so".

I will be creating nests from recycled materials as I did here in Canada for use in “La Semaine Européenne de la Réduction des Déchets”  which is the recycle awareness week in all of Europe. The exhibition of the work I create will take place in various locations in trees from November 16 – 24.

Below is a series of paper nests (including the eggs) that were created using printmaking techniques
and then manipulated to become 3D. The colours of each nest relate directly to Disney characters and settings, and each
3D egg is created from maps of Paris and of Disneyland Paris.

The Legend of the Red Thread

This is a collaborative piece.  It is a book that visually represents the legend of the Red Thread.
"An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or  circumstances. The thread may  stretch or tangle, but never  break."  - Ancient Chinese Proverb

We created a book that has a red thread connected through each page. I created the prints in the book by inking a thread and then putting it in the press. It was a challenge but as you can see from the picture below, it looks really great. Cathryn Miller is the other artist that I worked with on the project, she constructed  the amazing book using traditional book binding methods and the box that the book is contained in.

Just be...
Can you think of one or two or 10 more????

This is a project that will see me painting honeycombs and bees on the sidewalks and roadways of Saskatoon between Ave E and F on 20th St. For those that were looking forward to painting on the 25th of September it had to be postponed for logistical reasons.  It will now occur in the spring, date to be determined.  Below is an image of the first corner completed when construction fencing was still in place at the corner of Ave. F and 20th.   I will be painting the crosswalks on E and F and along the sidewalks.

Family Nest

Just finished my "Family Nest" paper nest series. The nests are 3 linocut prints that are cut and manipulated to create a 3D paper nest. The eggs are also made from paper and are 3D.
